Discover the only belfry in the Netherlands

In the charming centre of the Zeeland-Flemish town of Sluis stands the Belfort, the only belfry in the Netherlands. This impressive tower was built in the 14th and 15th centuries and is an important part of the town's rich history.

Originally, a belfry was a medieval tower with bells that were rung to announce important events, such as fires, the arrival of an enemy or the introduction of new laws. Later, the tower also became part of the town hall.

Today, the Belfort remains an important symbol of civic pride, prestige and history and is well worth a visit during a day out in Sluis.
