Just across the Belgian border lies Het Zwin, a unique nature reserve and true birdwatching paradise. This special coastal lagoon consists of dunes, salt marshes and tidal salt flats and is known as the ‘international airport for birds’.

Migratory birds use the area as a resting place during their journeys north and south. With a little luck, you can spot storks, cormorants and kestrels, among other species.

Several walking and cycling routes lead through the area, with viewpoints where you can observe birds and enjoy the unique landscape. Waterproof shoes or boots are recommended, as some parts of the area can be wet and muddy.
